Working with Individuals
My approach to working with individuals is an empathetic and strength based approach. My goal is to provide a safe space to help you heal from the difficulties of life whether you are feeling stuck or struggling with a specific issue such as depression, anxiety, loss, or trauma. Using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, I help clients break free from their struggles and move towards living a life that’s fulfilling and meaningful. I work together with clients to process past wounds, identify self-destructive patterns, increase connections in meaningful relationships, and initiate value guided actions.
Working with Couples
Humans are hardwired for connection. It can be very distressing and frustrating when we aren’t able to safely connect with our partner. Using Emotion Focused Therapy, which has been validated by over 20 years of empirical research, I help couples to identify negative patterns in their relationship and where they get stuck. We will work on creating safety, repairing trust, improving communication, and learning more effective ways of dealing with conflict. There is hope for improving your relationship and you don’t have to do it alone!
Trauma in its many forms can be painful, complex, and often has a way of seeping into many areas of our lives. I work alongside my clients to understand their experiences and empower them in finding hope and healing. Using a gentle approach, I can help you gain control over intrusive thoughts, destructive behaviors, and move towards inner strength and healing.
I have a special interest in helping individuals who have experienced the painful and complex effects of relational trauma. Betrayal can shatter your sense of self, lead you to question your reality, feel anger, shame, or grief. Betrayed partners may be overwhelmed with fear, anxiety, depression, or even be completely numb. It’s a horrible place to be, but you don’t have to navigate it alone. I work to help individuals create safety, process trauma symptoms, learn to trust yourself again, and find hope and healing.
Background and Training
I have a Psychology degree and I am finishing a Master’s degree in Professional Counseling at Ottawa University. My passion for learning and love for people has led me to seek advanced training beyond my graduate degree program. I have participated in several trainings in Emotion Focused Therapy in order to help couples transform their marriage. In addition, I have attended trainings in evidence-based modalities for treating trauma, including helping individuals and couples recover from betrayal or relational trauma. Also the last ten years I have worked with teens as a youth group leader and as a recreation specialist at an inpatient mental health facility.
Scheduling and Insurance
Evening and weekend appointments available.
I accept Blue Cross Blue Shield and Aetna insurance. For clients without insurance my rate is $40 for a 50-minute session. I can also offer a sliding scale fee if needed.
